The P1 Altimeter is a barometric unit that measures peak altitude up to 4 miles and has the best calibration accuracy in the industry. Utilizing a NIST traceable master calibrator accurate to one-foot increments, the new P1 delivers the most precise altitude readouts yet available. And each unit comes with a calibration chart that shows its response over the entire range.
Measuring only 4" in length, the P1 is much smaller than the conventional P2 unit and fits easily in a 1" diameter tube.
Operation
Following turn-on, pressure samples are taken at half-second intervals and indicated
by short flashes of the display LED. Initial ground-level readings are updated every 80
seconds until an AGL (Above Ground Level) reading in excess of 300 feet arms the unit.
Sampling continues at the rate of two per second during flight. At apogee, the peak
altitude is stored and if ordered, the optional Firing Board (FB) delivers an output pulse
for activation of an apogee streamer. The unit continues sampling down to 440 feet AGL at
which time the optional FB fires the MAIN output. The resulting 3 digit altitude value is
flashed out every 10 seconds on the display LED. The calibration chart yields the precise
altitude value in feet.
